Back in high school I was not that great of a public speaker.

The stress. The anxiety. The fear of making a stupid mistake and saying something wrong in front of an auditorium filled with people was paralyzing — the pressure weighed on me and delivered a severe blow to my public speaking confidence.

But after 4 years in graduate school filled with presenting papers in front of battle hungry academics, just waiting to pounce on you at first light of slipping up, and defending my dissertation in front of my committee, knowing that I was going to be grilled at any second, I was able to conquer my fear of public speaking.

However, I have a confession to make: a few days ago I got a bit nervous.

You see, I recently talked about computer vision, surveillance and tracking, and the algorithms behind [bank] check detection and recognition on the Hanselminutes podcast.

Scott Hanselman, the host of Hanselminutes, is a great guy and a podcasting legend. Just being able to chat with him on a podcast was quite the honor!

Anyway, the interview is pretty high-level (i.e. not that technical) and is geared towards an audience that is just hearing about computer vision for the first time. But it’s still a great listen and I would definitely encourage you to check it out.

    Just listened to the Podcast. Got a very good and clear overview of what’s possible and how to get started. Although not my primary field of interest I’m almost tempted to dive into this…Well done !

      That’s awesome Cees! I’m glad you enjoyed the podcast. And I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to jump into computer vision. It’s a lot of fun (almost addicting, even) and it’s super practical in the real world.
